Ballydehob Community Council Newsletter
ISSUE : October 2010
Next month will mark the sixtieth anniversary of the death of the great Danno O’Mahony, Ballydehob’s famous son. To mark the occasion the Ballydehob Area Community Council have commissioned Bowen Engineering in Rathooragh, Schull to produce a miniature metal replica wrestling ring surrounding the Danno statue at Staball Hill, Ballydehob. It was felt that the replica miniature ring would compliment the statue and add to its appearance. Further details will follow in next months news letter and the Ballydehob notes.
Ballydehob Area Community Council Ltd have been in discussions with Cork County Council’s senior engineer Mr. Billy Horgan regarding upgrading Audley Cove Beach. Audley Cove beach is widely used by local people and visitors. We hope to include Audley Cove in the “Clean Coast Award” category which is jointly run by the West Cork Development Association, Cork County Council and An Taisce. This involved water quality testing and setting up a group to keep the beach clean. We in the Ballydehob Area Community Council Ltd feel this is a worth while project and will add to the C.V. of our area. Further details will follow in future newsletters.
As the winter months are almost upon us a lot of people are worried about unwanted callers on the dark winter evenings. The Ballydehob Area Community Council Ltd. Are in the process of reactivating our community alert scheme. Garda Billy Byrne has been contacted and has agreed to attend our next meeting with advice and suggestions regarding the scheme. More information will be available in next month’s newsletter.
