Balldehob Community Council Newsletter
ISSUE: November 2011
Ballydehob’s semi final of the “Mizen’s Got Talent” competition takes place in the Community Hall this Sunday November 27th at 4p.m. free entry, we have 16 acts performing with 5 going forward to the grand final which takes place on Saturday December 17th in Schull. Please come and support the young and not so young performers. Derry Kennedy will be on hand to provide backing for any of the acts that require same. During the mid interval Ballydehob Community Council will be presenting a sponsorship cheque to our famous long distance swimmer Mr Steven Redmond, a raffle will also take place. A great afternoon’s entertainment is assured. Don’t Miss It. A number of months ago we reported a number of articles that appeared in the media alleging contamination of drinking water in the Schull area. Ballydehob Community Council wrote to Cork County Council at that time looking for clarification that the water supply to the Ballydehob area was safe for human consumption. After a lengthy period we received a reply from Cork County Council’s “Drinking Water production Section” outlining that Ballydehob is supplied with water from the Skibbereen regional water supply scheme at Ballyhilty. Cork County Council confirmed in the letter that the water was contaminated with the cancer causing bacteria known as THMS on one occasion in 2010. A very worrying confirmation. Why didn’t Cork County Council notify the public of this at the time and make arrangements to supply safe water for public consumption? A lot of questions remain unanswered. We would like your comments on this. Ballydehob Community Council will make available a copy of Cork County Council’s letter to the public on request. Finally the retirement celebration night for Garda Billy Byrne is soon approaching Saturday December 10th. If you wish to attend please return your slip outlining the numbers attending from your household. Any not in receipt of a slip can let Bridie Roycroft in the post office or I know of your intention to attend. We really need to confirm numbers attending in order to try and provide for all. Volunteers for baking and other food would be greatly appreciated. Also volunteers to help on the night would be great. Please contact Bridie Rycroft 086/1966733 at the post office or Noeleen Murphy 086/3254214 regarding food to be provided.
