Ballydehob Community Council Newsletter

ISSUE : August 2010

Ballydehob Area Community Council Ltd is setting up a Ballydehob Tidy Towns committee. All volunteers are welcome and suggestions as to how we can further improve the village and surrounding area would be more than welcome. A lay by on the Bantry Road has been pro-posed, but the river would have to be fenced according to Mr. Billy Horgan Executive Engineer, Schull.

Ballydehob Area Community Council Ltd is to embark on improving Audley Cove beach with a view to upgrading the beach to a blue flag status and again any suggestions and help would be gratefully appreciated.

It has come to the attention of the Community Council that a substantial amount of vandalism has taken place at East End of Ballydehob. We would urge anyone observing such activity to report the matter to the Gardaì. This is something that should be stamped out.

In the preparations by the Community Council to launch the pedal boats for this years season a worrying observation was made in the amount of silt that accumulated again over the winter period. So much so that it has created an area which is usable by the pedal boats. It is feared that unless some of the silt is removed it could jeopardise the launch of the pedal boats for next years season. This would be a great loss as an amenity for the visitors and local people alike. Ballydehob Area Community Council Ltd intends to write to the local County Coun-cil Engineer Mr. Billy Horgan about this worrying problem and also contact all our local representatives about same. We will let you know the result of the meetings in next month’s newsletter.

Martin Swanton, Chairperson, BCC.
